More Standards for Europe and Faster
by GSI Staff June 07, 2011
More standards for Europe and faster: this is the main objective of a series of measures that the European Commission proposed on June 1, 2011.
The measures, which are both legislative and non-legislative, are intended to accelerate, expand, and modernize European standardization activities; the most important are:
1) Enhancement of the European Commission's cooperation with the leading standardization organizations in Europe (i.e. CEN, CENELEC and ETSI);
2) Drafting of European standards with the help of organizations representing those most affected, or most concerned – consumers, small businesses (SMEs), environmental and social organizations;
3) Recognition of Global ICT standards that will play a more prominent role in the EU;
4) Increase of the number of European standards for services if there is a demand from business.
