Start by familiarizing yourself with some key terms in standardization.
A standard is a document that contains technical specifications or other precise criteria to be used consistently as a rule, guideline, or definition of characteristics, to ensure that materials, products, processes, personnel or services are competent and/or fit for their intended purpose(s).
Conformity Assessment is the demonstration that specified requirements relating to a product, process, system, person or body are fulfilled.
Accreditation is a confirmation by a third-party that a conformity assessment body has formally demonstrated its competence to carry out specific conformity assessment tasks.
Metrology is the science of measurement. It deals with physical measurement standards (not documentary standards).
